Oklahoma in the Knowledge Economy (2000)

Soon after publishing our 'Manifesto for the Digital Age', BusinessLab were approached by Prof Arthur 'Skip' Porter, Dean of Engineering at Oklahoma University and Secretary of Science and Technology Development to the State of Oklahoma, to work on a strategy for Oklahoma in the Knowledge Economy.

The aim was to undertake a review of an emerging strategic concept to develop the state as a world centre for courseware development. A key objective was to look for evidence of a knowledge cluster - a self-reinforcing community of organisations and individuals with world class skills in pedagogy, epistemology, multimedia production, creative direction, design and marketing and an effective network of customers, suppliers and advisers.

The study identified a number of knowledge based businesses - organisations whose primary role was to package, sell and distribute knowledge in the form of information, training, education and entertainment - and set out a prioritised action plan for the State of Oklahoma.
