e-Cities

The programme, which launched in 2001, involved all of Scotland's city councils, the Scottish Executive, the DTI, Scottish Enterprise and a group of major corporate IT companies such as BT, Microsoft, Fujitsu, Oracle, Cap Gemini and Sony. The University of St Andrews also played a major role as the programme's, academic partner.

The eCITY Index is the tool that resulted from the E-city programme. and has now been used across Scotland's six city councils, with Glasgow City Council crediting its use as key to the city's success in winning the Intelligent Community of the Year Award in 2005. Based on the success of the first phase of the programme, BusinessLab have been setting out the objectives for the next phase of eCITY research which will explore a range of new ICT areas such as mobile, wireless, grid and RSS applications and technologies, within the context of public sector service delivery.
